A short photographic remembrance of our good friend, Bob Oehrtman, who passed away July 1, 2009 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Teacher, scholar, scout leader, friend and father, Bob had a remarkable zest for life. Click on any of the photographs to see a larger image.
It was the summer of 1983, Bob, Anne, Mike and Greg Oehrtman visiting the Millers in Jenks, Oklahoma.
Always one for adventure and economy, Bob encouraged us to accept weekend invitations to join them for time-share and land sales pitches. We joined them and always managed to have a good time -- even if we weren't prime customers!
Bob joins son Mike and friend Rebecca Wetteman in the pool at Jenks.
Karen recalls Bob once diving off the board and hitting his head on the bottom of the pool, skinning it quite badly. He usually shrugged off such incidents. Some of us would have called the medics!
Bob worked hard, played hard, and rarely did anything without focusing on it 100 percent.
Could Bob tease? Oh, yes -- and it looks like he's about to test Anne's threshhold.
Karen believes that Bob probably took this picture of our group on an outing to the metropolis of Cement, Oklahoma for a bluegrass festival.
Families Oehrtman, Tyrl, Wetteman and Miller often partook of these events across Oklahoma. It was our first real exposure to bluegrass music, providing lots of good family fun. Alcohol was banned -- but jamming was encouraged. That's Brad Miller in the ball cap at right, strumming on a guitar.

For more than 20 years, Bob taught the introductory course AGEC 1114 at Oklahoma State University, regularly generating over a quarter of his departments teaching credit hours. He won numerous awards over the years.
Here he cuddles with friend Carol Trapp at a 1980 celebration of one of his many teaching awards. This photo was taken at the Miller home in Stillwater.
Bob taught at OSU for 33 years and retired in 2003. He continued his love of teaching as a professor emeritus after retirement.

Bob organized a surprise dinner for their anniversary -- and Anne was surprised! He arranged for the Millers to drive in from Jenks to join the celebration at The Late Show restaurant/night club east of Stillwater.
In about 1990, Bob and Anne -- with son Greg -- visited the Millers in Vermillion, South Dakota.

During their 1990 visit to South Dakota -- we made good on our long-standing plans to take a cruise. Instead of a real sea cruise, we settled for a short trip down the Missouri River!
Despite heavy winds, our excursion on a small steamer out of Yankton was a fun outing.
In 2000, The Oehrtmans and Millers conspired to meet in Amsterdam and spend two weeks touring parts of Denmark and Germany.
Our digs in this time-share unit south of Copenhagen was very nice, but we had heard that they charged an arm and a leg for electricity.
Accordingly, we used the TV sparingly and -- yes, the evidence is on the table -- we even burned candles to conserve electricity.
We later had a good laugh about our excessive frugality!
